Scotch Eggs

Updated: Oct 15, 2021

Family favourite, I don’t follow a recipe for scotch eggs I just remember watching my nan making them when I was young. I used to love the ones that my nan made and always looked so easy to make.

Firstly boiling the eggs is always the hard part as I like the yolks to be gooey so you have to time it just right. The problem with this is the white can still be a bit runny which makes de shelling hard.

I don‘t buy sausage meat anymore to create them as I find the flavours boring so started getting more interesting flavoured sausages. I love to use the bacon and cheese flavour to go with the egg but have also used apple in the past.

I just buy breadcrumbs from the supermarket but maybe one day I’ll attempt at making my own. I season the crumbs with herbs and pepper to give more flavour, herbs always go great with bread.

I have a mini deep fat fryer and can only fit two balls in at a time. After I fry them I put the fried scotch eggs in the oven to keep warm and toasty.

They are great to eat for the next day too! I like to eat mine with Dijon mustard
